Duran Lantink Debuts Disruptive Jean Paul Gaultier SS26 Collection in Paris
Duran Lantink, the Dutch designer and winner of the 2024 LVMH Prize, has made a striking debut as the creative director of Jean Paul Gaultier with his Spring/Summer 2026 ready-to-wear collection titled "Junior." This collection revives the rebellious, youthful spirit of Gaultier's cult line from 1988–1994, blending iconic elements such as the Marinière stripe and tattoo-on-mesh with Lantink's signature disruptive volumes and optical illusions. Inspired by Amsterdam's legendary RoXY club and the works of poet John Giorno, Lantink emphasizes fashion as a space of freedom and hedonism, creating a collection that feels fun, energetic, and urgent. The show, held in the basement of the Musée du quai Branly, was emotionally significant, with Jean Paul Gaultier himself expressing pride and approval of Lantink's bold reinterpretation of his legacy. Lantink's approach, described as "Duranification," involves a playful and instinctive process of fitting, twisting, and evolving pieces that push Gaultier's codes into new, provocative territories. This fresh and unapologetically provocative take brings new life to the house, aligning with Gaultier's historical role as the fashion industry's enfant terrible and reaffirming the brand's commitment to challenging norms with elegance and audacity.
