Harrods plans six-figure payouts to Al-Fayed abuse victims

Harrods is proposing a redress scheme offering six-figure payouts to victims of sexual abuse by its former owner, Mohamed al Fayed. Claimants could receive between £110,000 and £200,000 depending on their agreement to undergo a psychiatric assessment, with those opting for this 'medical pathway' potentially eligible for damages exceeding £300,000. The proposed payouts come in light of numerous allegations against al Fayed, who reportedly may have abused at least 111 women over four decades. Harrods has stated that it is consulting with survivors and their legal representatives to finalize the compensation scheme, which aims to be trauma-informed and fair. The legal firm MPL Legal is managing the scheme and has outlined potential damages for various claims, including compensation for wrongful testing and loss of earnings. Harrods has expressed its condemnation of al Fayed's actions, describing them as an abuse of power.
