Shawn Gossett, a 25-year-old Florida man, has been arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree murder, arson, and aggravated cruelty to animals after intentionally setting a fire that killed four people and three dogs. The fire occurred shortly after midnight on South County Line Road in Plant City. Gossett, who lived in the home, admitted to starting the fire by igniting paper towels with a Bic lighter. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue responded swiftly, discovering the bodies while extinguishing the blaze. Sheriff Chad Chronister condemned the act as senseless and horrific, praising the efforts of the detectives and fire rescue team for their prompt action leading to Gossett's arrest.
