Kiran Baliyan Provisional Suspension for Doping

Kiran Baliyan, an Asian Games bronze medallist in shot put, has been provisionally suspended by India's National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after testing positive for metandienone, an anabolic steroid. This follows a successful performance at the 2023 National Inter-State Championships and the 2024 Federation Cup, where she won gold and silver, respectively. Alongside Baliyan, other athletes, including hammer thrower Manju Bala and badminton player Krishna Prasad Garaga, have also been suspended for testing positive for various banned substances. The ongoing doping crisis highlights the challenges faced by Indian sports, with numerous athletes across multiple disciplines now under investigation. Notably, Bajrang Punia's name is absent from the latest suspension list, despite his previous issues with NADA regarding a refusal to provide a urine sample. If found guilty, Baliyan could face a ban of up to four years.
