Man Charged After Minor's Accidental PNC Park Fall

Ethan Kirkwood, 21, has been charged with two misdemeanor counts for furnishing alcohol to a minor after purchasing beer for his 20-year-old friend, Kavan Markwood, at a Pittsburgh Pirates game on April 30, 2025. During the seventh inning, while celebrating a play, Markwood fell 21 feet from the stands onto the field at PNC Park, sustaining severe injuries to his neck, clavicle, back, skull, spine, ribs, lungs, and brain. Surveillance footage and receipts confirmed Kirkwood bought multiple beers, and court documents indicate he admitted to providing the alcohol. Pittsburgh officials ruled the fall accidental, and a team investigation found Markwood consumed two beers and did not appear intoxicated before falling. Markwood's recovery has been slow but ahead of expectations, with his family and the public offering ongoing support. Kirkwood's preliminary court hearing is scheduled for late June.
