FAMU athletic director

The Florida Board of Governors has approved the appointments of interim presidents at the University of Florida and Florida A&M University (FAMU), with Kent Fuchs returning to lead UF and Tim Beard stepping in at FAMU following controversial leadership changes. Fuchs, who previously held the presidency at UF, will receive a base salary of $1 million, while Beard's contract includes a $400,000 salary and additional benefits. In parallel, Angela Suggs is set to be appointed as FAMU's Vice President and Director of Athletics, following the resignation of the previous athletic director at Beard's request. Suggs, a FAMU graduate and former athletic department leader, will be the second individual to oversee FAMU's entire athletics department and is recognized for her successful fundraising initiatives. Her contract will be finalized in a Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for September 20, 2024. These administrative changes come amid a period of transition and scrutiny at both institutions, particularly at FAMU, which has faced criticism over recent leadership decisions.
