Former 49ers Linebacker Jim Fahnhorst Dies at 66, Three-Time Super Bowl Champion
Jim Fahnhorst, a three-time Super Bowl champion linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, has died at the age of 66. Drafted in the fourth round by the Minnesota Vikings in 1982, Fahnhorst never played a regular-season game for Minnesota but instead spent two years in the USFL before joining the 49ers in 1984. Over seven seasons with San Francisco, he appeared in 82 regular-season games and contributed to the team's victories in Super Bowls XIX, XXIII, and XXIV. Fahnhorst was also known for his college football success at Minnesota and later pursued coaching after his playing career. His older brother, Keith Fahnhorst, who also had a lengthy career with the 49ers, passed away in 2018 at the same age of 66. The 49ers and fans alike have expressed their condolences and honored Fahnhorst's legacy.
