ANC Engages Coalition Talks Amid Budget Dispute

The African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa has called for a 'reset' in its coalition relationship with the Democratic Alliance (DA) following tensions over the national budget. ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula emphasized the need to rebuild trust among coalition partners, stating that the party will engage with both coalition and non-coalition parties to address the budget impasse within five days. The DA, which has expressed dissatisfaction with its role in economic policymaking, recently voted against the budget and sought to block it in court, further straining the coalition. Despite these challenges, Mbalula affirmed the ANC's commitment to the Government of National Unity (GNU), highlighting that future governance should be based on established rules.
