Rhode Island, Minnesota Launch Cannabis Market Expansions

Rhode Island's Cannabis Control Commission has approved a comprehensive set of regulations for the state's recreational marijuana market, marking a significant step towards expanding retail operations nearly two and a half years after legalization. The new rules, effective May 1, will establish a hybrid selection process for awarding 24 new retail licenses, ensuring inclusion of social equity applicants and worker-owned cooperatives. Meanwhile, in Minnesota, the Office of Cannabis Management is set to begin issuing business licenses following the publication of final cannabis rules, with a focus on social equity applicants expected to lead the way. Over a thousand applicants are poised to receive licenses, with lotteries planned for capped licenses this summer.
