Geno Smith Has Nine Interceptions, Raiders 0-4

Geno Smith has thrown nine interceptions in his first five games with the Las Vegas Raiders, the NFL lead and the most by a Raiders quarterback in a team’s first five games since 1982. The Raiders fell to 0-4 after a 40-6 loss at Indianapolis in which they failed to reach the end zone, surrendered six consecutive touchdown drives and committed an early special-teams blunder. Smith threw two interceptions in that game and finished 25-of-36 for 228 yards with no touchdown passes. Injuries to Kolton Miller and tight ends Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer, along with schematic problems, have hampered the offense, but turnovers are widely viewed as the central issue. The Raiders, who traded for Smith and gave him a two-year, $75 million extension, say they remain committed and are pursuing coaching and practice adjustments while coach Pete Carroll urged focus on process.
