Two DHS Agents in Utah Implicated in Drug Scheme

Two Department of Homeland Security agents in Utah, including David Cole, have been implicated in a scheme to sell seized 'bath salts' through a confidential informant, netting illegal profits between $150,000 and $300,000. The agents allegedly conducted these operations weekly from April to December 2024, using Homeland Security Investigations evidence without arresting any buyers. The informant, initially recruited for legitimate operations, claimed he was forced into the illegal sales under threat to his safety. The FBI's investigation involved controlled buys and wiretaps, culminating in a raid that uncovered bath salts and $67,000 in cash. Cole has been charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, while the second agent, referred to as 'Person A,' has not been officially charged yet. Homeland Security Investigations and federal prosecutors are continuing to pursue the case.
