Former Verkhovna Rada Speaker Parubiy Shot Dead in Lviv

Andriy Parubiy, a prominent Ukrainian politician and former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, was fatally shot in Lviv by an assailant disguised in a Glovo courier delivery uniform. The murder has been widely condemned by Ukrainian leaders, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who called it a "horrific murder" and vowed a full investigation, with all necessary forces deployed to apprehend the shooter. Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine's fifth president, described the killing as a blow to the Army, language, faith, and the heart of Ukraine, emphasizing Parubiy's significant role in building the Ukrainian army, supporting language laws, and strengthening national identity. Parubiy had a long political career, including serving as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council and leading the Maidan Self-Defense during the Revolution of Dignity. Authorities launched a special operation to search for the perpetrator, and seven shell casings were found at the crime scene. Parubiy's death is regarded as an act of terror, with calls for the special services and law enforcement to find and punish those responsible.
