DeSantis Announces I-4 Lanes Open Early in 2025

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced the early completion of congestion relief lanes on Interstate 4, set to open the week of April 28, 2025, eight months ahead of schedule. This project is part of the $2.5 billion 'Moving Florida Forward' initiative aimed at improving transportation across the state. The newly added lanes run between U.S. 27 in Polk County and World Drive in Osceola County, which is expected to ease traffic in one of Florida's most congested areas. The initiative includes nearly 700 projects with a total investment of $75 billion and is anticipated to have a $13 billion economic impact on the I-4 region alone. DeSantis emphasized this project, among others, would aid in improving connectivity and mobility, particularly during hurricane evacuations. Other major projects include enhancements on Interstate 275 and the Interstate 95 Golden Glades interchange.
