Josh Gad Withdraws From Hollywood Bowl Jesus Christ Superstar Due to COVID
Josh Gad has withdrawn from the upcoming Jesus Christ Superstar concert at the Hollywood Bowl after testing positive for COVID-19. Scheduled to perform as King Herod alongside Cynthia Erivo as Jesus and Adam Lambert as Judas, Gad expressed his heartbreak over missing the opening weekend but emphasized the show would still be spectacular. The production, directed by Sergio Trujillo and running from August 1–3, will proceed as planned, though a replacement for Gad has not yet been announced. The cast also includes notable performers such as Phillipa Soo, Milo Manheim, and Raúl Esparza. Gad shared his diagnosis on social media, highlighting his decision to prioritize the health and safety of the cast. Despite his absence, Lambert plans to release a single from the show on opening day for fans who cannot attend.
