Multiple US Communities Mark International Overdose Awareness Day with Events

Communities across the U.S. are organizing events to mark International Overdose Awareness Day in late August 2025, aiming to honor those lost to overdoses, support recovery, and raise awareness about substance use disorder. In Kirkland Lake, a local group called Change for Timiskaming is hosting a remembrance event with live music, a barbecue, and naloxone kit distribution to combat stigma and provide resources. Similarly, Adapt Integrated Health Care and partners in Roseburg will hold a family-friendly event focused on connection and compassion, featuring remembrance activities, naloxone training, and community resource booths. Quality Behavioral Health in Ludington is combining their grand opening with an awareness event that includes testimonials from those in recovery and community activities to inspire hope. Kentucky’s RiverValley Behavioral Health credits increased education and naloxone availability with a 30% drop in overdoses and hosts a family-focused event with activities to reduce stigma. Wisconsin’s La Crosse County Health Department is coordinating multiple events including a treatment resource fair, a documentary screening, and a vigil to engage the community in overdose prevention and remembrance.
