Nearly 80% Women Face Workplace Discrimination in Football Industry

Recent surveys reveal persistent gender and racial biases in traditionally male-dominated fields such as maritime leadership and football. In the maritime sector, 68% of women leaders report experiencing bias related to gender, race, or identity, with many facing non-transparent promotion paths and a workplace culture favoring the "boys' club." Similarly, in football, nearly 80% of women have faced discrimination in the past year, with sexism and misogyny being widespread, and over half reporting inaction when complaints are made. Women of underrepresented ethnic backgrounds in football experience even greater obstacles and reduced optimism about their prospects compared to their peers. Both industries acknowledge the critical need for inclusive policies, transparent promotion processes, mentorship, and cultural change to support and retain diverse talent. These findings highlight the urgency for systemic reform to foster equitable work environments and tap into the full potential of all employees.
