Duarte opens new shelter for Eaton Fire evacuees

Evacuees displaced by the Eaton Fire will soon transition from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium to a new shelter at the Pamela Park gymnasium in Duarte, as announced by Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger. The Pasadena shelter, which peaked at approximately 1,500 residents, was set to close due to an agreement with the city to return the facility to its normal operations. The Eaton Fire, which began on January 7, destroyed over 9,400 structures and claimed at least 17 lives. The relocation aims to keep evacuees near their social networks and familiar community resources, as officials facilitate transportation and housing support. Currently, around 149 individuals are expected to move to the Duarte shelter, which will operate until all residents have a stable housing plan. Barger emphasized her commitment to ensuring the well-being of those affected during this transition.
