Braves Promote Walt Weiss; Snitker Becomes Advisor
Walt Weiss, 61, has been promoted to be the Atlanta Braves’ 49th manager, succeeding longtime skipper Brian Snitker, who will move into an advisory role with the club. Weiss has been Atlanta’s bench coach since 2018 and has been with the organization as a player and coach for 11 seasons; he was part of Atlanta’s 2021 World Series staff and won a World Series as a player in 1989. This will be Weiss’s second MLB managerial assignment — he managed the Colorado Rockies from 2013–2016 and compiled a 283–365 (.437) record, a résumé that has prompted some concern among fans and observers. The front office emphasized continuity in choosing an in-house hire familiar with the roster and Snitker-era philosophy. The club hopes Weiss can guide a talented but underperforming Braves team back to the postseason after a 76–86 2025 season.
