Okolona Fire Captain Chris Berry Drowns During Tennessee Boating Trip

Okolona Fire Protection District Captain Chris Berry, 35, tragically drowned during a camping and fishing trip at Dale Hollow Lake, on the Kentucky-Tennessee border. Berry fell overboard from a bass boat late at night and despite rescue attempts, his body was recovered from 72 feet underwater several hours later and taken to the Nashville Medical Examiner’s Office. A nine-year veteran firefighter, Berry had a distinguished career with multiple specialized rescue certifications and awards. The Okolona Fire Protection District expressed deep sorrow and gratitude for the widespread support received from the community and fellow emergency responders. A procession is planned to bring Berry's body back to Kentucky, with funeral arrangements forthcoming. Berry's death marks the second loss for the department within two weeks, following the recent passing of another longtime firefighter.
