IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alerts Across Telangana, UP, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal, Chandigarh
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple weather alerts across northern and eastern India due to heavy to very heavy rainfall expected over the next few days. Telangana faces an orange alert for heavy rains in 15 districts, with Hyderabad and nearby areas expecting moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. A red alert has been issued for north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, where heavy rains and strong winds could intensify due to a low-pressure area and cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. In northern India, Uttar Pradesh has received an orange alert for heavy rain in 15 districts caused by western disturbances, likely leading to above-normal rainfall until September 2. Himachal Pradesh is on red alert with extremely heavy rainfall, raising concerns about landslides, flash floods, and widespread road closures, especially in districts like Kullu, Mandi, and Chamba, where over 800 roads are blocked. Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula are also under a heavy rainfall warning, with authorities advising residents to stay indoors and prepare for potential waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
