Great Western Railway (GWR) has restored direct train services between Bristol Temple Meads and Oxford for the first time in over 20 years, with two return services operating on Saturdays. The services, which also stop at Bath, Chippenham, and Swindon, were reinstated in response to increased demand for leisure travel since the pandemic. GWR managing director Mark Hopwood highlighted the route's potential for improving connectivity and expanding leisure offerings. Oxford City Council's Councillor Louise Upton described the service as a 'game-changer' that will enhance economic opportunities and reduce traffic congestion. The new timetable includes departures from Bristol at 10:18 AM and 3:18 PM, and from Oxford at 12:03 PM and 5:12 PM, with journey times starting from one hour and 11 minutes. This trial service will run until December, coinciding with the Bath and Oxford Christmas markets.
