Over 40,000 Sign Petition for Women's Sports Protection

Honourable Bukola Olopade, the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, highlighted the importance of supporting women in sports, while confirming his attendance at the forthcoming Ogun Women Run in Abeokuta, Nigeria. The race, scheduled for December 7, 2024, aims to empower women and promote healthy living, featuring a 5-kilometer route. Meanwhile, over 40,000 individuals have signed a petition by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) urging the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to preserve women's sports by preventing biological males from competing in women's categories. The petition criticizes IOC policies for prioritizing ideology over fairness and claims they have led to significant disadvantages for female athletes. Activists, including former college athletes, stress the need for the IOC to uphold the integrity and safety of women's sports, noting that many women have lost medals and opportunities due to these policies. The petition was hand-delivered to the IOC's headquarters in Switzerland, emphasizing the call for accountability and protection of women's athletic opportunities.
