ESPN Plans One-Hour Tribute to Lee Corso Before Final College GameDay
Lee Corso, a beloved ESPN college football analyst and icon, is celebrating his 90th birthday and preparing for his final College GameDay appearance on August 30, 2025. Corso has been a central figure on College GameDay since 1987, popularizing his signature mascot headgear picks and the catchphrase "Not so fast, my friend!", and leaving a lasting impact on college football broadcasting over nearly four decades. ESPN is honoring Corso with a one-hour special titled "Not So Fast, My Friend: A Lee Corso Special," airing August 22, which highlights his career as a player, coach, and broadcaster, featuring colleagues and football legends. Throughout his tenure, Corso made 430 headgear selections, visited over 70 campuses, and contributed to GameDay earning nine Sports Emmys, while influencing many colleagues including ESPN reporter Paul Finebaum, who called him the most impactful person in college football media history. Corso's final headgear pick will take place during the highly anticipated Ohio State vs. Texas game in Columbus. The special and farewell mark the end of an era for college football fans who have followed Corso’s enthusiasm and expertise for over 75 years.
