Ipswich Town Welcomes Ashley Young, Son Tyler to Championship Squad
Tyler Young has signed with Ipswich Town's under-21 development squad, creating the potential for him to play alongside his father, Ashley Young, who joined the Championship club this summer after leaving Everton. Ashley, 40, has had a distinguished career with 39 England caps and spells at clubs including Manchester United, Aston Villa, Inter Milan, and Everton, and has featured in all four of Ipswich's league matches this season. Tyler's path has involved time in academies at Arsenal, MK Dons, and QPR, plus a season at Peterborough United before joining Ipswich's U21s. The pair nearly faced each other competitively last season in the FA Cup when Everton played Peterborough, but Tyler remained on the bench, a decision that drew criticism from Peterborough's manager Darren Ferguson. Currently, Tyler has been named on the bench for Ipswich's Premier League 2 fixtures and has appeared in friendlies, while Ashley continues to be a regular in the first team. Their joint presence at Ipswich presents a rare opportunity for a father and son to share the professional pitch in the Championship.
