Two Firefighters, Civilian Die in Bicester Ex-RAF Base Fire

Two firefighters, Jennie Logan and Martyn Sadler, along with a member of the public, David Chester, tragically died in a major fire at the former RAF base at Bicester Motion in Oxfordshire. The blaze prompted a large emergency response, with multiple fire crews tackling the fire and local residents urged to stay indoors due to heavy smoke. The London Fire Commissioner confirmed that one of the firefighters was a London Leading Firefighter who served with both London and Oxfordshire fire services, and two other firefighters remain hospitalized with serious injuries. Thames Valley Police have opened an unexplained death investigation led by their Major Crime Team, although it is not currently considered a criminal investigation. The fire and rescue service continues to dampen the scene, and families of the victims are receiving support from liaison officers. Fire stations across the country, including in Derbyshire, have paid tribute by flying flags at half-mast to honor the fallen firefighters.
