Beverly Hills Man Sentenced for Luxury Theft

Jobson Marangoni De Castro, a 38-year-old man from Beverly Hills, was sentenced to two years and three months in federal prison and ordered to pay $1.64 million in restitution for stealing luxury items from a couple's hotel room. De Castro pleaded guilty to interstate transportation of stolen property after he tricked a hotel employee at the Peninsula Beverly Hills into giving him a key to the couple's room while they were dining. He stole six suitcases containing jewelry, clothing, and accessories valued over $1.6 million. Following the theft on May 10, 2023, he traveled to Miami where he sold some of the stolen jewelry for $50,000, falsely claiming it belonged to his late mother. Authorities were able to track De Castro through GPS data from his Uber trips and hotel surveillance footage. The stolen items matched the description of the couple's belongings, leading to his arrest and conviction.
