China Promotes Humanoid Robots for Elderly Care

China is implementing a comprehensive policy aimed at addressing the needs of its rapidly ageing population through the integration of humanoid robots and advanced technologies in elder care. The State Council has announced plans to accelerate research and development in robotics, brain-computer interfaces, and artificial intelligence, with the goal of establishing a nationwide elderly care service network by 2029 and a mature system by 2035. Current statistics show that approximately 216.76 million elderly individuals, representing 15.4% of China's population, face a significant shortage of care facilities, with only 8.2 million beds available. This initiative not only focuses on technological advancements but also encourages foreign investment and workforce training to meet the growing demands of elder care services. The policy is part of a broader strategy to develop a unified national elderly care information platform and intelligent home systems, aiming to enhance safety and accessibility for seniors.
