Netflix premieres Western drama The Abandons starring Lena Headey December 4
Netflix's new Western drama series "The Abandons," created by Kurt Sutter, is set to premiere on December 4, 2025. The show, set in Washington Territory in 1854, follows the intertwined fates of two matriarchs leading very different families: one of wealth and privilege, the other a found family of orphans and outcasts. Starring Lena Headey as Fiona, a devout matriarch who adopts orphans to create her own family, and Gillian Anderson, the series explores themes of family, survival, crime, secrets, and a contested piece of land rich with silver. Executive Producer Chris Keyser highlights the narrative as a classic American frontier story about love, war, and the struggle between the haves and have-nots. The cast also includes Nick Robinson, Diana Silvers, Lucas Till, and others, with the production filmed in Calgary. Notably, Kurt Sutter stepped away from the project in October 2024, and the show aims to capture the spirit of Western dramas like "Yellowstone" and "Longmire."
