Gretchen Walsh Shatters Records at Virginia Meet

At the University of Virginia's dual meet against Florida, Gretchen Walsh broke three American records and set a new world record in the 100-meter Individual Medley with a time of 55.98, becoming the first swimmer to break the 56-second barrier. Her performance was enhanced by competing in a 25-meter pool, which is less common in the U.S. In a separate event, Regan Smith tied Walsh's American record in the women's 100m backstroke with a time of 54.89 at the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Shanghai, making her the second-fastest performer in history for the event.
