UK, Spain, EU Reach Gibraltar Border Agreement

The UK, Spain, and the EU have reached a historic agreement resolving Gibraltar's post-Brexit status, concluding four years of negotiations. The deal eliminates physical border checks for people and goods between Gibraltar and Spain, securing free movement and supporting regional prosperity. Dual border checks, modeled after those at Eurostar terminals, will be implemented at Gibraltar’s airport with both Gibraltar and Spanish officials involved. Gibraltar will join the Schengen area, enabling seamless daily crossings for approximately 15,000 workers, while preserving British sovereignty and Gibraltar's autonomy over immigration and law enforcement. The agreement is considered the last major unresolved Brexit issue and aims to safeguard economic stability for Gibraltar. Leaders from all parties have praised the deal as a milestone in UK-EU relations.
