California's 'Bolder than Most' Rapist Released with Conditions

Alvin Ray Quarles, known as the 'Bolder Than Most' rapist, has been released from Coalinga State Hospital under a conditional release program for sexually violent predators. Quarles, who committed numerous assaults in the 1980s, was previously sentenced to 50 years in prison followed by treatment in a state hospital due to his diagnoses of sexual sadism, voyeuristic disorder, and antisocial personality disorder. Despite his release being contested by victims, he is now temporarily housed at 1138 Custer Road in Campo, California, under 24/7 supervision by Liberty Health Care, including GPS monitoring and constant security presence. The release decision was made by a court following an evaluation that deemed his treatment successful enough for conditional release. His current residential status is transient, and authorities continue to search for a permanent housing solution. Community notifications have been issued under Megan's Law to alert residents of his presence and the measures in place to monitor him.
