Operation North Star Arrests Over 3400 Fugitives
The U.S. Marshals Service arrested 3,421 fugitives nationwide in the latest phase of Operation North Star, focusing on violent offenders in 10 metropolitan areas, including Phoenix, Dallas, and East St. Louis. The operation, which ran from May 10 to September 13, resulted in 216 arrests for homicide, 803 for assault, and 482 for weapons offenses. Authorities seized 534 firearms, over $508,000, and 456 kilograms of illegal narcotics, including significant amounts of fentanyl. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts, which involved substantial risk. The initiative, launched in 2022, has so far led to the apprehension of over 10,200 fugitives. Significant arrests included individuals suspected of serious crimes such as home invasion, child endangerment, and drive-by shootings.
