EastEnders Receives BAFTA TV Craft Special Award for Talent Initiatives

EastEnders has been awarded the BAFTA Television Craft Special Award in its 40th anniversary year, recognizing the show's long-standing commitment to nurturing new talent behind the scenes. Over the years, EastEnders has established multiple training and diversity programs, such as the BBC’s Continuing New Directors’ Training Scheme and the Diversity Director Training Scheme in partnership with Directors UK, as well as new initiatives like the Writers' Studio and Ascend acting workshops in 2024. The soap has served as a launching pad for notable industry figures, including Academy Award-winning director Tom Hooper and BAFTA-winning writer Sarah Phelps. Additionally, EastEnders played a pioneering role in industry sustainability by piloting the first carbon calculator for TV production, which inspired BAFTA's Albert carbon footprint tool. The award also highlights the show's focus on championing underrepresented voices and its broader influence on both the UK and international film and television industries. BBC Studios' Head of Drama Productions, Kate Oates, expressed pride in EastEnders' tradition of training and supporting industry talent.
