China, Indonesia Strengthen Cooperation Against Shared Challenges

Chinese Premier Li Qiang expressed China's readiness to strengthen cooperation with Indonesia to jointly address risks and challenges, emphasizing collaboration across five key areas: politics, economy, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, maritime affairs, and security. During talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, both countries signed several agreements focusing on economic development, industrial and supply chains, financial cooperation, tourism, agricultural exports, traditional medicine, investment, and media. Li urged deeper industrial integration and free trade to foster mutual development and prosperity, calling for peaceful dispute resolution and win-win cooperation. This outreach reflects China's broader strategy to build coalitions amid its ongoing trade tensions with the United States. Following Indonesia, Li is scheduled to attend the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council-China Summit in Malaysia. The partnership highlights Indonesia's strategic position in the Indo-Pacific region where both China and the U.S. vie for influence.
