Petrobras Completes First Argentina Vaca Muerta Gas Import to Brazil
Brazil's state-controlled company Petrobras has completed its first import of unconventional natural gas from Argentina's Vaca Muerta shale formation, transporting 100,000 cubic meters of gas via pipelines through Bolivia into Brazil. This milestone supports President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's directive to increase domestic natural gas supply and reduce consumer prices. The import is part of an agreement allowing Petrobras to import up to two million cubic meters daily on an interruptible basis, reflecting growing regional energy cooperation and infrastructure integration. Petrobras operates in Argentina through its subsidiary POSA, which partnered with Pluspetrol to produce the gas. This initiative follows extensive negotiations involving the governments of Brazil, Argentina, and Bolivia, and marks a new phase in South American gas interconnectivity. Petrobras' commitment to sustainable market development and supply expansion was highlighted by its Director of Energy Transition and Sustainability, Angelica Laureano.
