Vehicle-Pedestrian Crashes in U.S., U.K. Kill Several
A wave of vehicle-on-pedestrian and cyclist crashes across the U.S. and U.K. in mid- to late-October left multiple people dead and others seriously injured, with investigations ongoing and police urging witnesses to come forward. Providence police identified the 78-year-old pedestrian killed on Branch Avenue as Michael Demaula; the van driver remained at the scene and cooperated. In New Jersey, an Atlantic Highlands police car struck an adult male e‑biker on Oct. 10; the cyclist was airlifted and died on Oct. 19, and the state attorney general’s office is conducting a statutorily required investigation. Other fatal crashes were reported in Phoenix’s Maryvale neighborhood, Orangeburg, N.Y. (Oct. 21), and Savannah, while additional serious-injury incidents include a 13‑year‑old struck in Jamestown Township, a hit‑and‑run in Chicago’s South Deering, a hit‑and‑run in Epping, U.K., and a seriously injured moped driver in Fargo. Most incidents remain under investigation and police in several jurisdictions have released images or requests for tips.
