During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, nearly 39% of athletes were tested, resulting in five positive doping cases, according to the International Testing Agency (ITA). A total of 6,130 samples were collected from 4,770 tests on 4,150 athletes, marking the highest testing proportion ever recorded, a 4% increase from Tokyo 2020 and 10% higher than Rio 2016. The most tested nations included the United States, France, China, Australia, and Great Britain, with athletics, swimming, cycling, rowing, and wrestling being the most scrutinized sports. Prior to the Games, around 90% of athletes were tested at least once, leading to over 40 anti-doping rule violations being recorded. The five athletes who tested positive were from Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Congo, and Bolivia, and their cases are currently under disciplinary review. All samples collected will be stored for ten years for potential re-analysis as testing methods evolve.
