PM Modi Begins Assam Visit for Bhupen Hazarika Centenary, Unveils $19,000 Projects
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is undertaking a significant two-day visit to Assam to honor the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika, a legendary figure in Assamese music and culture. The celebrations include an 18-minute musical tribute by 1,200 artists performing 14 of Hazarika's timeless songs, the release of a Rs 100 commemorative coin, and a biography of the maestro. Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation for various projects worth over Rs 19,000 crore, spanning healthcare, transport, energy, and infrastructure, including the Darrang Medical College, Narengi-Kuruwa bridge, Guwahati Ring Road, and a bamboo-based ethanol plant. This visit is part of a broader multi-state tour focusing on connectivity and development, with Modi also set to inaugurate railway projects in Mizoram and other initiatives across northeastern and eastern states. Bhupen Hazarika's legacy as a cultural icon deeply rooted in Assam's folk traditions and his impact on social justice and unity are central to the commemorations. Modi's engagement highlights both the tribute to Hazarika's enduring influence and the government's commitment to regional development.
