David Johnstone has been appointed as the new Northern Ireland Veterans Commissioner, succeeding Danny Kinahan who resigned earlier this year. With 26 years of military experience, including service in Iraq, Johnstone expressed his commitment to making a positive difference in veterans' lives and plans to engage actively with the veteran community starting in January 2025. The role is recognized as vital for ensuring veterans receive the support and recognition they deserve, as highlighted by NI Secretary Hilary Benn. Johnstone's appointment will last until August 2026, with a fixed remuneration of £306 per day plus expenses.
