Amazon Unveils Amelia Glasses, Blue Jay Robotics
At its Delivering the Future event, Amazon unveiled automation and AI tools including a multi-arm Blue Jay robotics system and Project Eluna to speed warehouse picking, sorting and on-the-spot decisions. Amazon says Blue Jay consolidates multiple robotic stations into one system, saves space, reduces injuries and was accelerated to production using AI and digital-twin design methods. The company also confirmed development of Amelia, AI-powered hands-free augmented-reality delivery glasses that scan packages, provide turn-by-turn walking directions, capture proof of delivery and are paired with a vest-mounted controller with swappable batteries and an emergency button. The glasses are now in North American trials with hundreds of drivers, are designed to activate after parking and could replace bulky handheld GPS devices to shave seconds off the costly "last 100 yards." Amazon says it is refining the tech with driver input and plans future safety/defect detection features, but critics warn monitoring and efficiency drives could increase workload and safety pressure on delivery workers. Together with vehicle scanners and detailed digital maps, Amazon's push toward "physical AI" aims to compress delivery times while raising questions about rollout speed, regulation and worker impacts.
