UK Unveils Major EV Grants and Charging Expansion

The UK government has launched a comprehensive £650 million program to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption, including the reintroduction of grants up to £3,750 for new EVs priced under £37,000 and available for over 30 models. The initiative aims to bridge the price gap between EVs and petrol cars, promote UK-made vehicles, and exclude most luxury brands and Chinese imports. Alongside the grants, £63 million is allocated to expand charging infrastructure, with £25 million for cross-pavement solutions to assist households without driveways, potentially saving drivers up to £1,500 annually. Additional funding will electrify public sector fleets such as the NHS and overhaul EV charging signage nationwide. The measures are part of the government's broader 'Plan for Change' to make EV ownership more accessible, reduce emissions, and support domestic jobs.
