Virginia Hires Duke’s Chris Pollard as Baseball Head Coach

The University of Virginia (UVA) has hired Chris Pollard as its new head baseball coach, succeeding Brian O’Connor who left for Mississippi State. Pollard, previously Duke’s head coach for 13 seasons, is Duke’s all-time winningest coach with a 420-296 record and led the Blue Devils to seven NCAA tournament appearances and four Super Regional appearances. Over his 26-year coaching career, Pollard has also led teams at Pfeiffer and Appalachian State, achieving a career record of 806-614-3 and notable postseason successes including multiple NCAA tournament berths. Recognized for revitalizing Duke's program, Pollard is praised for his success, experience, and passion, with many considering UVA a dream job for him given his Central Virginia roots. His hiring was quickly announced following Duke's exit from the NCAA Super Regionals, marking a swift transition. Pollard’s track record includes coaching numerous MLB Draft picks and earning ACC championships, positioning him well to continue UVA’s baseball legacy.
