Arsenal Allows Jorginho Early Transfer to Flamengo for Club World Cup
Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is set to join Brazilian club Flamengo on a free transfer after his contract with Arsenal expires at the end of June 2025. The 33-year-old has agreed to a three-year deal with Flamengo, keeping him at the club until December 2028, and Arsenal have given permission for Jorginho to leave early to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins in mid-June. Flamengo will face ES Tunis, Chelsea, and either LAFC or Club America in the tournament group stage. Jorginho, who joined Arsenal from Chelsea in January 2023 and made 79 appearances, has struggled with limited game time and a recent lung injury but has been a key figure in midfield under Mikel Arteta. His departure coincides with Arsenal's plans to strengthen their midfield, including targeting Martin Zubimendi and negotiating a contract extension with Thomas Partey. Flamengo's coach, Filipe Luis, a former Chelsea player, will oversee Jorginho's return to Brazil, where he will play professionally for the first time.
