Stoke-on-Trent Marks 100th Anniversary With Citywide Celebrations, Train Unveiling

Stoke-on-Trent celebrated the 100th anniversary of its city status with a series of events on June 5, 2025, including the unveiling of a special nameplate on Avanti West Coast's Pendolino train, which carries the city's name and commemorates the centenary. The train journey from London Euston to Stoke-on-Trent featured city dignitaries and honored a late Avanti employee, Brett Hobson. The festivities also included a large People's Parade through the city center, culminating in a community party at Hanley Park with music, food stalls, and activities. Local leaders, including Lord Mayor Steve Watkins, emphasized the city's rich heritage, community spirit, and cultural identity, encouraging residents to celebrate with traditional foods like Staffordshire oatcakes and lobby. The centenary marks not only Stoke-on-Trent's proud past but also its ongoing journey and unity under the motto "Vis Unita Fortior." The city launched Stoke-on-Trent Day as an annual event to honor its history, culture, and diverse communities.
