South Carolina Daycare Worker Arrested for Infant Abuse

Gladys Rampersant, a 75-year-old daycare employee at Sweetgrass Christian Academy in North Charleston, South Carolina, was arrested for allegedly abusing a baby under one year old. Authorities reported that Rampersant violently shook the infant, slammed them into a crib, and hit the child on the head multiple times during an incident in July 2025. She was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child and held at the Al Cannon Detention Center before posting a $15,000 bond and being released. The investigation into the case is ongoing, with Rampersant's next court appearance scheduled for October 31. Sweetgrass Christian Academy, which had opened in late July 2025, has since deactivated its social media accounts and appears to be permanently closed following the incident. The North Charleston Police Department's Special Victims Unit is leading the investigation.
