Bulgarian authorities made a significant drug bust at the Black Sea port of Burgas, seizing 436 kilograms of heroin valued at approximately 35 million euros. The heroin was concealed in 434 packages within a trailer that was supposedly transporting cable-laying machines, which raised suspicion due to its prolonged stay at the port. The trailer had traveled from Kyrgyzstan via Batumi, Georgia, and was intended for Alexandroupolis, Greece. Despite the large quantity of drugs, no arrests have been made, and no individuals have been identified in connection with the trafficking operation. This represents the largest drug seizure recorded in Burgas, underscoring Bulgaria's strategic position on a major drug trafficking route from the Middle East to Western Europe. Convictions for drug trafficking in Bulgaria can result in prison sentences of up to 20 years.
