The Baltimore Orioles' pitching staff suffered significant setbacks as Kyle Bradish underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery and Danny Coulombe had surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow. Bradish, who placed fourth in last year's AL Cy Young voting, experienced elbow discomfort during his most recent start and had an internal brace installed during the surgery, which may shorten his recovery time. Despite a strong start this season with a 2.75 ERA and 53 strikeouts, Bradish will miss 12 to 18 months. Coulombe, the team's best reliever with a 2.42 ERA, is expected to return by September. The Orioles, already plagued by injuries to pitchers John Means, Tyler Wells, and Félix Bautista, may need to seek additional pitching talent before the trade deadline to remain competitive in the AL East.
