German Teens Charged in Far-Right Terror Plot

German police have arrested five teenagers, aged 14 to 18, for alleged membership in the far-right extremist group 'Last Wave of Defence,' which was founded in April 2024 and targeted migrants and political opponents. Two of the suspects face attempted murder charges for setting fire to a cultural center in Altdöbern, where residents narrowly escaped harm. The group is also linked to vandalism and attempted arson at asylum-seeker shelters, often accompanied by neo-Nazi slogans and symbols. Three additional suspects, aged 18 to 21, are already in custody in connection with the group. Authorities emphasize that the case highlights a disturbing rise in far-right radicalization among German youth, as extreme-right crimes have reached record highs. Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig called the involvement of minors an 'alarm signal' regarding the growing threat of right-wing extremist terrorism.
