Mother Arrested After Three Children Found Living in Squalor in Pontiac

In a shocking case of neglect, a 34-year-old mother has been arrested in Oakland County, Michigan, after her three children were found living in appalling conditions in a Pontiac rental home. The children, aged 15, 13, and 12, had been abandoned for several years, surviving only on food left on the porch, and had not attended school since their mother's departure in either 2020 or 2021. When deputies performed a welfare check at the landlord's request, they discovered the home filled with garbage, mold, and human waste, with the children sleeping on pizza boxes and lacking basic hygiene knowledge. Sheriff Michael Bouchard described the situation as one of the most extreme cases of abandonment and neglect he has ever encountered. Following the rescue, the children were placed in protective custody and taken to the hospital for evaluation. The mother is currently being held in jail pending charges.
