Norway Oil Gas Production Surpasses August Forecasts By 2.6%
Norway's oil and natural gas production surpassed official forecasts for the second consecutive month in August 2025, with natural gas production reaching 332 million standard cubic meters per day and crude oil output averaging 1.92 million barrels per day. This exceeded projections by 1.2% for gas and 7.1% for oil, despite a slight month-on-month decline due to scheduled maintenance and unplanned outages on offshore fields. Norway remains Europe's largest supplier of natural gas, accounting for a significant share of the EU's pipeline gas imports, and continues to be a key energy provider to Europe. The Norwegian government supports the oil and gas sector robustly, backing ongoing production increases and planning further exploration in frontier areas to offset expected long-term declines. Total liquids production rose year-on-year by over 6%, reflecting the sector's overall growth despite monthly fluctuations. Energy Minister Terje Aasland emphasized Norway's commitment to being a long-term supplier of oil and gas to Europe, highlighting the industry's value to the national economy and job creation.
